Well, That Was Tough

Nathan Gerred

Nate Gerred is the Tree
Sometimes, the strongest trees stand alone.

Gym membership sales see a 30%-40% spike in January. Less than half of the Resolutionists keep their fitness goals more than 6 months. Well like, things come up… ya know? I started my gym membership in early December to avoid being a part of a group referenced to in italics or sarcasm quotes by fitness bloggers and health gurus everywhere. I’m sure I’m still in some other italicized statistic.
So I’m about a month and a half into my transformation into a fine human specimen (so maybe it’s been a slow start), and I’m getting pretty serious about it all. It was an exceptionally intense workout tonight, and I felt it by the end of it. I’ve realized these to be my favorite nights. I love the workouts where all you can think is, “Damn, I don’t know if I could do that again”, because you know you just did it… and you can do it again. Maybe it was the pre-workout… or the natural endorphins, but that realization got me thinking. In so aspects, those rough patches, the especially low points in your life are a breeding ground of defining moments. Whether it’s a particularly tough break-up, a stressful month at work, or just over all bad luck, you should always strive to be a better person on the other side of it. And when it’s really got you down, you can hold your chin high. Once you get through it all, you’ll know you can persevere through that much more. I think someone said something along the lines of “what doesn’t kill us is making us stronger”… I think it was Roseanne. I’ve had some rough patches; it’s been a long 26 years. Break ups and low points scattered throughout my adult life have only made me a stronger person, and I embrace every trial and tribulation as another opportunity to become a better person. It’s a pretty obvious statement, I’m aware. But anytime you have an epiphany at the gym, it deserves to be written down.
